How can we help?

Answers to common questions below. If you can't find what you need, get in touch — we read every message.

How often is waiting time data updated?

Waiting times are fetched directly from the NHS Kent & Medway website each time you open the app or tap the refresh button. The NHS publishes updated data approximately every 30–60 minutes.

Why does the app ask for my location?

Your location is used only to sort centres by distance and show how far each one is from you. It is never stored, never sent to any server, and never shared with anyone. You can use the app without granting location access.

Why are some centres showing no data?

Waiting time data is published by each centre individually. If a centre shows "No data", it usually means that centre has not yet published its latest figure. Try refreshing in a few minutes.

The app won't load — what should I try?

Check you have an active internet connection, then tap the refresh button. If the problem persists, force-close the app and reopen it. The NHS data service is occasionally unavailable during maintenance windows.

How do I get directions to a centre?

Tap any centre in the list to open its detail view, then tap Open in Maps. This hands off directly to Apple Maps with the centre's address pre-filled.

1 Who we are

This app is an independent project by Matthew Pope. It is not affiliated with, endorsed by, or operated by NHS England, NHS Kent and Medway, or any NHS trust. Waiting time data is sourced from the publicly available NHS Kent & Medway waiting times page.

2 Information we collect

Location (optional)
If you grant location permission, your device's approximate location is used solely to calculate the distance between you and each Urgent Treatment Centre, and to sort the list by proximity. Your location coordinates are processed entirely on your device. They are never transmitted to any server, never logged, and never stored beyond the current app session. The app functions fully if you decline location access — you will simply not see distance information.

NHS waiting time data
The app makes an outbound network request to the NHS Kent & Medway website to fetch current waiting time figures. This request contains no personal data — it is equivalent to visiting the NHS webpage in a browser. No personal information is included in this request.

Centre reference data
The list of all 17 Urgent Treatment Centres (names, addresses, opening times) is embedded directly within the app. No network request is made to retrieve this information.

We collect no personal data whatsoever. There are no accounts, no logins, no analytics SDKs, no crash-reporting services, no advertising frameworks, and no third-party tracking libraries in this app.

3 How we use this information

The only purpose for which any data is used is to display NHS urgent treatment centre information to you within the app. There are no secondary uses, no profiling, and no aggregation.

4 Data sharing and disclosure

We do not sell, trade, rent, or otherwise share any data with any third party. No data leaves your device except the anonymous network request to the NHS website described above. We have no advertising partners, no data brokers, and no analytics providers.

5 Third-party services

The app accesses one external service: the publicly available NHS Kent & Medway waiting times page. This request is unauthenticated and contains no personal data. The NHS has its own privacy policy, which governs their website.

Apple's operating system frameworks (Core Location for distance calculations, MapKit for the map view) are used within the app. Apple's own privacy policies govern how Apple handles any data related to these system services.

6 Data retention

No personal data is retained. Waiting time data fetched from the NHS is held in memory for the current session only and is discarded when you close the app. Location data is never stored.

7 Children's privacy

This app does not knowingly collect any information from anyone, including children under 13. Because the app collects no personal data whatsoever, it presents no specific risk to children's privacy.

8 Your rights

Because we hold no personal data about you, there is no personal data to access, correct, export, or delete. If you have any privacy concerns or questions, please contact us at waitcheck@chartham.tech and we will respond within 30 days.

9 Changes to this policy

If we ever update this privacy policy in a material way, we will update the "Last updated" date at the top of this page. Continued use of the app after any changes constitutes acceptance of the revised policy. We will always maintain a commitment to collecting no personal data.
